DVD ‘Cajon Spelen’ nu verkrijgbaar met Engelstalige ondertiteling
Vanaf nu is de tweede persing van de instructie DVD ‘Cajon Spelen!’ van Arthur verkrijgbaar. Het bijzondere aan deze tweede persing is dat hij is voorzien van een Engelstalige ondertiteling. Ook in het begeleidende boekje is een Engelse vertaling opgenomen. Op de DVD demonstreert Arthur hoe de cajon, één van de meest populaire percussie instrumenten van dit moment, bespeeld kan worden. ‘Cajon spelen!’
Op een toegankelijke manier demonstreert Arthur Bont de vele mogelijkheden van het instrument. Aan bod komen de basistechnieken met oefeningen, en grooves en beats worden voorgespeeld. Arthur Bont laat zien hoe de cajon gecombineerd kan worden met bijvoorbeeld een hi-hat of bespeeld kan worden met brushes. Ook bevat de DVD praktische tips over het gebruik van microfoons bij live-optredens of in de studio. Dit alles is omlijst met muzikale intermezzo’s. Zo bespeelt Arthur Bont de cajon met muzikale gasten als Alain Labrie en Franklin Heilijgers (Flamenco), phinx (singer songwriter), Kaz Lux & Hotchpotch, Eric Kerns (singer-songwriter), Susan Zeegers (singer songwriter) en met de groep Hotchpotch (jazz, folk, bluegrass). Daardoor is de DVD voor zowel beginners als de wat gevorderde spelers geschikt.
De cajon
De oorsprong van het percussie-instrument de cajon ligt bij de Peruaanse slavencultuur van de 19de eeuw. Een verbod op muziek leidde tot massale vernietiging van bestaande muziekinstrumenten die de slaven meebrachten uit hun Afrikaanse herkomstlanden. Als noodgreep gebruikten slaven gewone kisten als instrumenten, waaruit de cajon als muziekinstrument ontstond. Pas aan het begin van de jaren zeventig van de twintigste eeuw kreeg de cajon bekendheid. Percussionist Rubem Dantes van de groep van Paco de Lucia introduceerde de cajon toen als ritme-instrument in de flamencomuziek. Vandaag de dag wordt de cajon steeds meer toegepast in andere muziekstijlen, zoals wereldmuziek, pop en jazz. Zie ook: www.schlagwerk.com
Arthur Bont Drummer/percussionist
Arthur Bont (Utrecht, 1969) werkt sinds ruim twintig jaar als professioneel drummer en
percussionist. Van 1989 tot 1999 speelde hij bij de cajun / zydeco band Louisiana Radio. De afgelopen jaren werkte hij voor theatervoorstellingen zoals Mondo Leone (Leon Giessen), Holland America Lijn (Jack Poels en Leon Giessen), Hier komen de Russen en Reis door Rusland (Irena Filippova & Hans Visser). Daarnaast trad hij op in binnen- en buitenland met verschillende artiesten. Op vele cd’s en dvd’s is Arthur als gastmuzikant te horen. Arthur Bont verdiepte zich de afgelopen acht jaar intensief in de Cajon, en paste zijn nieuwe specialisme toe in theatervoorstellingen, bands en studio-opnames.

The instruction DVD ‘Playing the Cajon!’ is now available with English subtitles. On this DVD Arthur Bont demonstrates how to play the cajon, one of the most popular percussion instruments of this moment. His explanations, exercises and practical tips take turns with intermezzos in musical styles ranging from flamenco to pop and jazz. The DVD, released in cooperation with Schlagwerk percussion, is available in Dutch music shops or through this website as of today. The booklet is also translated in English.

‘Playing the Cajon!’
In an accessible way Arthur Bont demonstrates the many possibilities of the instrument.
Basic techniques and excersises are being explained, grooves and beats are shown. Also Arthur Bont combines the Cajon with for example a hi-hat and he plays it with brushes. Further the DVD contains practical advices on the use of microphones on stage and in the studio. The instructions are musically enlivened by Arthur Bont playing with guest musicians like Alain Labrie and Franklin Heilijgers (Flamenco), phinx (singer songwriter), Kaz Lux & Hotchpotch, Eric Kerns (singer songwriter), Susan Zeegers (singer songwriter) and the group Hotchpotch (jazz, folk, bluegrass). This makes the DVD attractive for starting players as well as more experienced drummers.
The cajon
The origin of the cajon goes back to the Peruan slavery culture of 19th century. A prohibition on music led to mass destruction of the instruments that slaves originally had brought from their African home countries. From sheer necessity slaves used ordinary cases as instruments, that later developed into the cajon as a musical instrument. Only in the late seventies the cajon became more well known. Percussionist Ruben Dantas of the Paco de Lucia group then introduced the cajon as rhythm instrument in the flamenco music. Since more than twenty years Arthur Bont (Utrecht, 1969) has been working as a professional drummer and percussionist. From 1989 til 1999 he played with the cajun / zydeco band Louisiana Radio. The last years he has been working for the theatre shows Mondo Leone (Leon Giesen), Holland America Lijn (Jack Poels and Leon Giessen), Hier komen de Russen and Reis door Rusland (Irena Filippova and Hans Visser). Besides the theatre he played in several national and international concerts and on many cd’s en dvd’s Arthur is playing as a guest musician. Arthur Bont studied the cajon the last 8 years intensively and used this new specialism in theatre performances, bands ans studio recordings.
